The layouts and colour follow a continuos theme whether this be through the use of similar colours of or font/format of the magazine advert. They usually contain reviews from critics/newspapers which helps promote their album through giving it a high amount of stars or a positive review.
From this, this gave me an insight on how to set out my own advert to advertise my artist 'Icona Pop' with their self titled album.
As with my digipak i used the font 'Flower Moon' as i liked how it was elongated and the fun style it gave, i knew it was important that i continued to use it throughout my advert in order to retain brand identity and using similar colours would be important in order for my audience to see the link and themes within my work.
When i first wrote out my artist's name, i originally was going to keep it white against the black background as i knew it was going to stand out and gain attention. But then as my video's concept is all about colour and this is an important visual within my video i decided to try out changing the colours within title so it appeared more neon/disco like.
It then came on to choosing the right image for my advert, originally from my drafts i was going to have three images of my artist each horizontal leaving a small gap in-between. I decided to stick with the conventional look for an advert and whilst keeping it simple with having only one image allowed me to make this image much larger than i would of been able to with three and then have space for the text at the bottom.
It then came on to choosing the image from the ones i had narrowed down and placed into a separate folder inside my original photoshoot one. The warm purple tone on my photo was quite easy to do, it involved changing the colour balance within the photo and altering the shadows/hightlights/tones to achieve this purple hue onto my image. As my digipak uses similar blue/purple/pink tones i figured that sticking with this colour theme was important to establish the continuos coloured theme.
I chose this image as it was a close up of both my artists and with them looking directly at the camera, it invites the audience in.
The image challenges Laura Mulveys male gaze theory as they are not portrayed as sexual objects for the male pleasure, they are not being provocative or dressed half naked which could be seen in some images female music artists use of themselves.
Although my video does contain colour, i feel that the second image with the white writing looks better against the black background and stands out more to my audience, the simplicity of the writing draws more attention to my star image which is my artists, rather than focusing on the colourful font which can appear distracting and does not fit with the theme of my digipak therefore it is not continuous.
